Richardson, GOP candidates fire up faithful at annual barbecue

More than 100 people turned out Monday night at the Willamette Park Rotary Shelter to hear Republican candidates speak at the party’s annual Benton County barbecue.

“It’s our time, this is our election, this is our year. Let’s vote Republican and change government for the better,” state Rep. Dennis Richardson said in a 14-minute keynote address.

Richardson, who is challenging incumbent Gov. John Kitzhaber in November, criticized Kitzhaber for the high cost of the Cover Oregon health care program and a persistently high unemployment rate and said he wasted millions of dollars on a Columbia River bridge project that never got off the ground.
