An Illinois judge on Tuesday threw out a lawsuit that would have kept Ted Cruz off the state's GOP presidential primary ballot, according to Reuters. The lawsuit was filed by Lawrence Joyce, a lawyer who challenged Cruz's eligibility to be president because he was born in Canada to an American mother.

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump took aim at rival Ted Cruz in a series of Saturday morning tweets, taunting Cruz over challenges to his citizenship and reports that he did not disclose campaign loans. Trump has tried to stoke concerns that Cruz would face legal challenges to his eligibility for president because he was born in Canada. After a Friday lawsuit questioning exactly that, Trump took a victory lap.

Thanks to Donald Trump, the Ted Cruz birther issue emerged this week on the edges of the presidential campaign. Cruz, born in Canada to an American citizen mother and a Cuban father, is an American citizen by birth, according to U.S. law. But Trump suggested there might be a question of whether Cruz meets the constitutional requirement that the president be a "natural born citizen," and that the issue could be tied up in litigation, thus creating a problem for Republicans if Cruz were to be the party's nominee.
