County commissioner a three-way race

The race to succeed retiring Benton County Commissioner Linda Modrell has quietly become a three-way contest.

The two major party contenders for the Position 1 seat on the three-person Board of Commissioners, held by Modrell since 1999, were settled in the May primary election. Jerry Jackson, the Republican nominee, ran unopposed, while Anne Schuster bested two other contenders to win the Democratic nomination.

A third candidate entered the race on Aug. 21, when Ed Siener filed papers to run in the Nov. 4 general election as a Libertarian.
