Group mounts write-in campaign for Rep. Jim Thompson

When Rep. Jim Thompson, R-Dallas, lost the Republican primary in May to a challenger from the right, it looked like the end of his legislative career. But a Political Action Committee is now mounting a write-in campaign with the hopes of sending Thompson back to Salem. "A group of local business people approached me with the proposition -- if they could get me elected, would I agree to serve," Thompson said. "Before I could think about it, I said yes." The group is called Friends and Neighbors for a Safe and Prosperous Community, and it's headed by Lynnette Henshaw, a member of the Polk County Republican Women's group.
