In the two weeks since Hillary Clinton wrapped up the Democratic presidential primary, runner-up Bernie Sanders has promised to work hard to defeat Donald Trump — but he’s given no sign he’ll soon embrace Clinton, his party’s presumptive nominee.

Obama seeks to broker peace between Clinton and Sanders
President Obama made the call a day after Bernie Sanders vowed to fight Hillary Clinton all the way to the Democratic convention in Philadelphia. The tense primary fight between the heavily favored Clinton and her liberal challenger had already gone on much longer than anyone had anticipated.

Why Cruz Could Beat Clinton
Last November, I spent a week in Kentucky to cover one of the most-loathed Republicans on the ballot that year. Matt Bevin, an ambitious, tea-party-oriented businessman who had challenged Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in a 2014 Senate primary, was now the GOP’s gubernatorial standard-bearer in the biggest race in the country. McConnell’s advisers tried to prevent Bevin from winning a divided primary.

Hillary’s Soft Despotism
Donald Trump is Hilter. Donald Trump is a fascist. Donald Trump is a dictator. Certainly Mr. Trump has a mouth, and he’s not afraid to use it. He also speaks to adoring crowds who cheer when he says to respond in kind to activists trying to disrupt his rallies. Even so, the over-the-top claims that Mr. Trump is the new Il Duce may be distracting attention from the soft despotism that Tocqueville deemed the far likelier menace to American liberties.Read more at the Wall Street Journal

Hillary Clinton: “We didn’t lose a single person” in Libya
Believe it or not, this might be the least delusional part of Hillary Clinton’s remarks about Libya in last night’s MSNBC town hall forum. Hillary declares that the US-led NATO intervention against Moammar Qaddafi was a success, and that “we didn’t lose a single person” in the regime change … which is only true if one believes that the sacking of our consulate in Benghazi under her watch was entirely unrelated to decapitating the functioning government of Libya (via Soshana Weissmann):

Clinton, Sanders Plan To Stop Fracking Would Boost CO2, Liberals Admit
What is an environmentalist to do these days? You can support windmills, so long as they don’t disrupt ridgelines, where the wind happens to blow. You have to approve of solar power, except when a solar power plant might disrupt efforts to restore migration routes for 100 sheep in the Mohave Desert. And you once were supposed to support natural gas as a “bridge fuel” between coal and something else, until you weren’t.

Clinton’s Laughable Claim: Petraeus Offense Was Worse
Last week’s Washington Post bombshell, the news that the Justice Department has given immunity from prosecution to the former State Department staffer who maintained Hillary Clinton’s “homebrew” email server, is forcing Mrs. Clinton and her apologists to alter their media strategy.

Jim Webb: I won't vote for Clinton, but I may for Trump
Former Democratic presidential candidate Jim Webb won’t be voting for Hillary Clinton, but he hasn’t ruled out casting his ballot for Donald Trump. Webb, who briefly flirted with an independent bid before deciding against it, said on Friday morning that the Democratic frontrunner wasn't inspirational.

Clinton and Sanders and Progressivism
Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders seek to claim the "progressive" mantle. Both claim the other is not a true progressive. Clinton teased Sanders as being the "self-proclaimed gatekeeper for progressivism." Bernie Sanders said that Hillary Clinton can't be both a moderate and a progressive and that most progressives don't take millions from Wall Street.

New Cruz ad: Damn, it feels good to be a Clinton
As Matthew Continetti remarked on Twitter, whoever handles Team Cruz' campaign ads deserves a raise - assuming this comes directly from the campaign, as MSNBC reported today. While Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders argued over the record of Henry Kissinger and the foreign policy of the Nixon administration, the Cruz campaign launched a pitch-perfect shot at Hillary in this Office Space spoof. Rather than destroying a printer, however, "Hillary" and two aides destroy an e-mail server while the soundtrack raps out, "Damn, it feels good to be a Clinton": ...

Clinton staff shakeup may be coming
Hillary Clinton is weighing a staff shakeup after Tuesday's New Hampshire primary, according to Politico. Both Clinton and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, are unhappy with the direction of the campaign's messaging and digital operations and had been considering changing staff and strategy after the first four voting states.

Clinton email scandal: Why it might be time for Democrats to draft Joe Biden
The Hillary Clinton email issue is developing into a real whodunit, complete with Clintonesque legal semantics. "I never sent or received any material marked classified," she said with respect to the discovery of classified information on her private, unclassified email server. That surface denial nearly rivals Bill Clinton's classic: "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." But this is no laughing matter.

Retirement Home Rumble: Sanders Proves Why He Shouldn't Be Commander-in-Chief, Clinton Hits Him For Suggesting She Could Be Bought
Vermont Democratic Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had one more retirement home rumble before New Hampshire residents flock to the polls Tuesday. In some areas, the two candidates showed great respect for one another, along with agreement on some policy issues. At other times, the gloves came off and things got a bit testy. NBC's Chuck Todd and Rachel Maddow moderated the debate.

Obama Admin For First Time Concedes 22 Top Secret Emails on Hillary's Home Server
The Obama administration confirmed for the first time Friday that Hillary Clinton's unsecured home server contained some of the U.S. government's most closely guarded secrets, censoring 22 emails with material demanding one of the highest levels of classification. The revelation comes just three days before the Iowa presidential nominating caucuses in which Clinton is a candidate.

Prominent South Carolina "Firewall" Democrat Drops Clinton Endorsement to Back Sanders
Overwhelming support from black voters is said to be Hillary Clinton's "firewall" against the possibility of Bernie Sanders victories in Iowa and New Hampshire. It's the reason that she's likely to build a delegate lead by winning primaries across the South in late February and early March. As Slate's Jamelle Bouie wrote last week, Clinton's advantage in this area has been built through decades of appearances and face-to-face conversations with voters and influential figures at "black civic and community organizations, from church networks to civil rights groups."

Hillary Blames ObamaCare for Lost Jobs
Napoleon Bonaparte said that one should never interrupt an enemy who is making a mistake. The political corollary is that one should never interrupt political opponents who are relieving themselves on each other's shoes and their own, as Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are now doing. Here is what Hillary Clinton's own Website says about the so-called Affordable Care Act.

Trump Spells Trouble for Clinton
If recent polls from more than half a dozen reputable polling organizations are to be believed, of the six leading Republican candidates for president Donald Trump is the one least likely to defeat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 general election. Polling can be and has often been wrong, sometimes spectacularly so, but Trump's electability gap has been a consistent feature of his primary campaign as a fire-breathing self-funding willing-to-say-anything non-politician politician. However, even if you believe (as I do) the conventional wisdom that Hillary Clinton is "clearly itching to run against Mr. Trump," he nevertheless poses a substantial threat to her presidential aspirations in advance of November's elections.

Democrats kept Hillary as protected as possible during debate
In what's sure to be another ratings washout, the Democratic National Committee held it's third debate on a weekend evening, this time also pitting themselves against a major NFL game.
The timing -- the Saturday before Christmas and in competition with the Jets' 19-16 win over the Cowboys in Dallas -- seemingly calculated to keep Hillary Clinton as protected as possible while assuring her challengers remain underexposed, critics noted.
