Texas Sen. Ted Cruz on Friday challenged the premise of Donald Trump's promise to "make America great again," and asked if Trump knows how America ever became great in his closing pitch to South Carolinians. Speaking in Myrtle Beach, Cruz launched into an extended diatribe about what he perceived as Trump's lackluster position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He followed it up with a list of Cruz's campaign promises and a stinging rebuke of Trump's singular message.

Time running out for Gov. Nikki Haley to endorse...but it won’t be Trump
The window of opportunity for Gov. Nikki Haley to endorse a presidential candidate is closing fast, and she may not publicly support anybody ahead of Saturday's primary.
Only three days remain until the Republican presidential vote, and Haley, who told a national news outlet she would endorse by or soon after the New Hampshire primary, has still not said anything publicly other than to confirm it will not be the outspoken, brash GOP front-runner Donald Trump.

Rubio surges back to electrify South Carolina
Marco Rubio carried a message to South Carolina: He is "at peace" with his failure in New Hampshire. He doesn't mean it casually, as though he has simply come to terms with what happened Feb. 6, when Chris Christie commanded the debate stage and turned Rubio's own rhetorical brilliance into a withering caricature of a robotic, scripted young senator that sent him spiraling to a fifth-place finish.

SC GOP voters prefer Trump, Carson; most say Graham should drop out
Most S.C. Republican primary voters want a president with no prior elected political experience, according to a new poll released Tuesday to The State.
A Public Policy Polling survey found Donald Trump would win 37 percent of the vote from S.C. Republicans and Ben Carson would pick up 21 percent. The rest of the crowded GOP field of 17 candidates was struggling in the single digits.

Bernie Sanders brings presidential ‘mania’ to conservative SC
The conservative Upstate got a taste of “Bernie-mania” on Friday.
Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders drew roughly 2,800 people to the TD Convention Center for the self-described democratic socialist’s first campaign event in the state.
The U.S. senator, an independent from Vermont, spoke for about an hour, delivering a fiery speech on why he thinks the United States has failed to deliver enough jobs, wages, education and healthcare to the middle and working classes, and to protect them under the law, based on their racial, sexual or income status.

Can Walker Hit South Carolina's Sweet Spot?
Scorching temperatures near the triple digits weren't driving away the 325 people gathered to hear Scott Walker speak at a Lexington, S.C., barbecue joint Wednesday.
Packed under an open-air porch with fans that were hardly helping, the heat didn't seem to affect the enthusiasm for the Wisconsin governor on just his second day as an announced presidential candidate — and it's the type of excitement he'll need to generate to win the important South Carolina GOP primary.
